I should follow this recommendation by an expert. It is scientifically proven. The theory is logically right. Lots of people are following it & it seems to be working for them. I trust it too. Let’s follow it. It will help me for sure. Let’s change my perception, let’s purchase these products, let’s force myself to follow this plan.
A few days pass, and you keep following this plan. You feel something wrong inside you. You see little progress. But you keep your strong hope alive and continue following this advice, with ironclad confidence that it will surely work for you.
7 days pass. 1 month passes. But you do not get any expected results. You feel frustrated and start to lose trust in this advice. But others still recommend it as it seems logically right. You try to motivate yourself again and start following the same path again. 3 months go by, but still no success. You start to feel depressed and anxious. Finally, you give up for good.
How many times have you faced a similar experience? I think many times. Because I have too. This happens to all of us: me, you, my family, your family, my neighbors, your neighbors. Everyone has faced such situations.
Why We Do This:
Because we are fallible human beings. But can this be avoided? Of course, it can be avoided by changing our perception a little.
Every day we get lots of advice from various sources. You want to earn money, you will get tons of advice from your friends, from the internet, from your family, from strangers, etc. You want to lose weight, you get tons of tips from everywhere. You think your life is not going well, and your mother takes you to an astrologer who recommends a weird ritual. You go to the gym, and many people start to give you advice on what to do and what not to do. You are feeling stressed. Some will tell you to keep grinding, some tell you to watch TV, some tell you to have sex, some tell you to fall asleep.
Even our own mind gives us multiple pieces of advice, inspired by our own logic, emotions, and experiences. I should eat that to lose weight. I should buy this new gadget to look cool. I should date this girl/boy. I should use this dark psychology to influence my friends. I should follow the law of attraction to get help from the universe.
Reality Tests:
Stop trusting every piece of advice blindly before doing a reality test. It does not matter what your logical mind says or what your heart says. What matters is what reality says. Make this your new perception.
Now, when you get any advice from any source for any problem/desire, decide to make a reality test first before fully using it. How to do it? Simple, use it for a few days. As usual, first logically and intuitively verify it so that it will be worth your time. There are tons of advice in the world; you can’t test all of them. This is not a research project to find the cure for a virus. So just filter some advice using your own logic. Choose the ones that seem realistic, logical, and hopeful.
Then follow it for a few days without over-commitment or over-investment. See if it is really working or not. Are you making any progress? Are you still feeling optimistic?
If it works, then it works for you; if not, then no need to try harder and act like a gambler. Just accept that this advice does not work for you realistically. This is not that bad. Try other advice; there is always something new to try. If there were a one-size-fits-all solution, then everyone in the world would have a lean body, always be happy, and be financially successful. But they are not. Everyone finds their own solutions to their own problems that work for them.
Similarly, you can too find your own solutions by yourself only. This will save tons of your time. Because when you blindly follow advice, you waste lots of your time, energy, and money on it. And then later regret it. But if you make a reality test first, you save lots of your resources from wrong investments.
So next time, when you get any advice that makes sense to you, instead of blindly following or fully ignoring it, make a small reality test. You get a weight loss plan, try it for a few days. You want to buy an expensive device, find others who have it and ask them about it. You want to read a book to follow its advice on business; then first read its summary and test it. If you want to follow an investment plan, make a small investment first and ask others who have done it for real. Before following any YouTuber’s or blogger’s advice, read their comments first and test it in your life. In short, before following any Guru, test it first, then follow.
Gradually, you will become very good at it as it will increase your experience assets. You will be able to detect bullshit advice very easily and save yourself from unnecessary traumas. This is the smart way of living. It is like trying first and using later. If you use this reality test way of living, you will save yourself from lots of frustration; I am fully sure about it.
So next time, when you think about following astrology, follow it for a few days and see any improvements yet. If not, then stop blindly trusting it. π€£
